Introduction to Computational Biology

All announcements will be made in the Slack chat. This is also the appropriate venue for asking and answering questions.
The goal of this course is to provide students with little or no prior programming experience the necessary computer and programming skills to be computational biologists. Areas of focus include: structural biology, genomics, modeling, and bioimaging.
There are two lectures each week: Tuesday and Thursday, 3:30-4:45pm at Boyd GSRC 222. A series of six 2-week assignments, a midterm, and a final exam will help reinforce the concepts (Graduate students: in lieu of the 6th assignment, you will be working on a project; more details to come).
We will be using Python 3 for the course assignments. Python includes excellent documentation for learning the language, but if you want a textbook, I will be referencing Bioinformatics Programming Using Python and An Introduction to Bioinformatics Algorithms.
Course materials will be linked from the lecture schedule and permanently archived in the GitHub repository.
This course is based partly on CSCI 1360, but also takes elements from Dr. David Koes' MSCBIO 2025 and Dr. Phillip Compeau's courses. Apologies to them for the blatant rip-offs.
